We encourage everyone to read David's book, but just a quick note about this tour. The subtitle to his book is "The Year Phish Became Phish." He says this because it was the year that Phish started to transition from small venues to bigger venues, and the year that they really "made it." Even within 1994, they started the year playing small venues like this one in L.A., and by the end of the year they were playing their first show at Madison Square Garden.
One of the great things about David's book is his ability to recreate the feel of the venues, of being at small shows, the crowds, and even getting yelled at by the band. The set we play here exemplifies Phish in small venues: they're having fun and experimenting—it's a weird, fun set, and fun to revisit. Also it's worth noting that this show has 0 reviews on phish.net, so we thought it would be worth playing for everyone as a potentially lesser-known show.
